The T2 powers the FMI cable. But the Nuvi itself senses the presence of the FMI cable via the resistor value in the connector on the side. When it sees an FMI device attached, it ASSUMES that it knows what's going on and REQUIRES power to be coming in from the cradle.
There is documentation floating around somewhere about the internal mod to the Nuvi 350 itself to accomplish a single cable from the T2 to the Nuvi. I tried to locate it in the archives and on the web but didn't land on the proper search terms. In the end, IIRC, you have to jumper some power inside the Nuvi and jumper the same power across the lump in the FMI cable. But my memory has been faulty at times, so search around for the solution. It HAS been done, and it definitely requires internal mods to the Nuvi itself (or I guess you could split the cable right at the Nuvi to route power to the back and the FMI to the side. One cable to the Nuvi, but both the side and cradle fed from it...
