I feel it my duty to remind everyone interested in this new standard that it's not necessary to do comprehensive testing (for the EMC and Low Voltage Directives, at any rate) as long as you can show that your product is in compliance with the essential requirements of both directives. As an additional reminder these are (roughly paraphrased) that the product is safe and can be safely used in the manner for which it was intended, and that it operates as intended in its defined electromagnetic environment, and not cause undue interference.
I'd hate to see manufacturers of this RTC go to any unusual expense to test and redesign the equipment, especially for immunity! Creepage and clearance distances may be a problem as well. And I shudder at the thought of trying to get components with the CE Mark or better. If you'd like additional advice on the matter, Call Vic.
