Hi Harold,
I'm not basing my conclusion on anything but anecdotal evidence from Tracy's original Pilot list and some early discussion on this Treo list. The Treos morphed the PalmOS devices into an Everyman device, but in the early days there was definitely a good lot of anti-Microsoft attitude mixed in with the enthusiasm for the Pilot/PalmPilot. Has nothing to do with more recent events, although the Pre is very "Mac like" (even my daughter noticed it) in its presentation of things like top menus, (and it's limiting what users can do . . .) and so would not feel unnatural to a Mac User. I would bet money that in the early days there was a higher percentage of Mac users among Pilot/PalmPilot users than in the general population, but of course there's probably no way to prove that, so it's a safe bet (and I'd only bet a nickel, my grandfather's standard bet). J Agree completely with the latter part of your email. ALL of the current platforms are inefficient with the number of steps required to access frequently used apps and do calendar/contact/task things, and could take some clues from the way PalmOS made entering/updating information in the basic PIM apps quick and efficient. My recollection is that Palm almost always made Mac users feel like the poorer step-children by always being at least one or more generation behind on their Palm-to-Mac synchronization. I think the mere fact that Palm poached Apple employees to migrate towards WebOS does not necessarily mean there's a synergy between Mac and WebOS and/or Palm. The notion is to reduce the "interference" between the machine and the user, which Windows certainly never did and which Apple was always good at. Right now as between iPhone's OS, Android and WebOS, it's pretty close, and principally a function of what the end-user wants and needs. Harold -- ======================================= Harold M.
