Using proprietary software is not unethical (developing proprietary software  
is). It is not valuing his/her own freedom. Somebody who uses proprietary  
software does harm to herself. Not to others... unless she is somehow forcing  
them to use proprietary software (e.g., using communication software with  
proprietary protocols such as Skype).
