I can argue a few examples. (I know you already like free software but this
are for your comment :) )
If everyone played by the same rules of propietaIry software that would mean:
1) If you are sick and you go to the doctor he would give you medicine, but
not a recepie. He would say: "A) this treatment is my intellectual property,
and I don't want you to know what it is, B) because if someone else gets sick
you would know what medicine that person should take".
C) He will also tell you that you can't know what medicine you are taking.
D) In order for the doctor to treat you better the next time you are sick,
and for him to treat better all of his patients he will install cameras in
your house to see everything yo do. E) Once you are fine the cameras will
have to stay.
2) If you want to buy a house and go to the bank this will happen:
A) They will NOT give you a loan but a LICENSE to use THEIR house.
B) YOU will pay for the house anyway.
C) You can't make any changes to the house.
D) You can not know how your house works, you cant try to figure it out
either, that means you can't have access to the pipes, electricity, whatever.
E) If the (not your's) house has a bugs or a security problem, you will have
to wait for the bank to fix it. They can fix it whenever they want, if they
choose to.
F) The (not yours) house will be supported just for a few years. After that
you still can't make any fixes or upgrades to your house. If you want a
better house, you should buy a new license.
G) THE LICENSE IS ONLY FOR YOU. If you want your wife and kids to use the
(not yours) house, you will have to pay for them to. Even if you have visits
you will have to pay for a license for everyone of your visitors in order for
them to use your house. Otherwise there can only be ONE person at the time in
the house.
H) There will be cameras all over your house so the bank can see all that you
are doing, they say is to provide you with a better house next time. This
Data will be shared with anyone BUT: The bank, the bank employees, comercial
partners of the bank, The goverment. And the data will be stored in a place
you don't know under security you don't know.
