Come on Glenn, stop twisting everything around. DavidM covered this extensively. The serpent on the rod was a type of Christ--a simile. A simile is a metaphor which shows similarities between things. The sun is similar to the glory of God. The shedding of the blood of a young ram on the eve of the Passover is similar to Christ's blood being shed for sin. The alter in the temple is similar to the hill on which Christ was cruciified. The water that sprang forth from the rock in the desert when Moses struck it is similar to the word of God. The vipers that were biting the Israelites in the wilderness were similar to the Pharisees and their poisonous doctrines. The manna which nourished the Israelites in the wilderness was similar to the word of God. etc., etc. The OT is full of similes, or types, of Christ.
