)  Seems logical to me that if I become like him, that is just
another way of saying I will become a God.   I always like to point out
that I will still be subordinate to Him, however--that he will always be
my God.
Can you back that up with scripture?  BIBLE type scripture.

Did He not pray once that those who were his disciples might become one
with him as he was one with the Father?
I thought that meant that we were praying in agreement with Him -  as one in spirit.

DAVEH:  It is more than "praying in agreement", Laura.  The Lord wants us to become like him....."Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."  (Mt 5:48)    And the glory Jesus (who is perfect) received from his Father, he will give to us.......

"And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:  I in them, and thou in me, that THEY MAY BE MADE PERFECT in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me."  (Jn 17:22-23)

.......It is clear that whatever glory the Father and Son are to have, we are to have also.  And, it is clear that in whatever sense the Father and Son are "one", we are to be one with them too........

"That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."  (Jn 17-21)

........I might add that vs 11 explains who he is talking about......

"And now I am no more in the world, but THESE ARE IN THE WORLD, and I come to thee, Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that THEY MAY BE ONE, AS WE ARE."

.......So Laura, contrary to the popular Trinitarian belief (if I understand it correctly) that the Father, Son and HG are one in Trinity alone, it seems that we are to be an equal part of that oneness.

I never have heard anyone say it meant literally become one with Him.
DAVEH:  The "oneness" is the implication that we too will become as God.
Anyone else have a comment on this one?
DAVEH:  Sure......CS Lewis said something I think is pertinent........

"The command BE YE PERFECT is not idealistic gas.  Nor is it a command to do the impossible.  He is going to make us into creatures that can obey that command.  He said (in the Bible) that we were "gods" and He is going to make good His words.  If we let Him-----for we can prevent Him, if we choose----He will make the feeblest and filthiest of us into a god or goddess, dazzling radiant, immortal creature, pulsating, all through with such energy and joy and wisdom and love as we cannot now imagine, a bright stainless mirror which reflects back to God perfectly.....His own boundless power and delight and goodness.  The process will be long and in parts very painful; but that is what we are in for.  Nothing less.  He meant what He said."
