Yes, Dave, that is pretty much correct. I have known a lot of prophets
and a few apostles.

Protestants are greatly divided on this subject. Some are cessationists
and believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit died out when the last
apostles died sometime at the end of the first century. Most of the
reformers like Calvin believed this way too. The Pentecostals and
Charismatics believe that the gifts never died out, but rather took a
remnant position in the churches through the ages. Of the Pentecostal
and Charismatic sects, some believe very strongly in prophets and
apostles and recognize them in their congregations, while others don't
really have knowledge of them.

I personally believe in the "five-fold" ministries of Ephesians 4:11,
which means that I believe in the modern day ministry offices of
apostles and prophets. Although Jesus has anointed me as a prophet in
the church, most of the time I do not tell people that because there are
many who have misperceptions and false ideas about prophets and so it
would be a distraction. In churches where such gifts are understood and
readily acknowledged, then it is not a problem and people might know me
as one who functions in the prophetic gifts.

Peace be with you.
