Blaine JS was issued over 40 arrest warrents in his lifetime, and beat them all--except the last
I guess that answers for his Character over 40 Warrants! You want us to believe he was persecuted?
Joe is presented by LDS as a spotless martyr & of virtuous character
"No law or constitutional right did he ever violate. He was innocent and virtuous; he kept the law of his country, and lived above it" (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 1, pp. 40-41).

The warrant for TREASON was sworn as a result of the destruction of the Expositor Press .
"You are here commanded to destroy the printing press from whence issues the Nauvoo Expositor, and pi the type of said printing establishment in the street, and burn all the Expositors...if resistance be offered to your execution of this order by the owners or others, demolish the house;... fail not to execute this order without delay, and make due return hereon."By order of the City Council, "JOSEPH SMITH. Mayor."

After it's first issue, the paper was declared a nuisance because it exposed Joseph Smith's private doctrine and practice of polygamy. More LDS book burning!

Mormon historian B. H. Roberts "'The legality of the action of the Mayor and City Counsel was, of course, QUESTIONABLE, though some sought to defend it on legal grounds; BUT IT MUST BE CONCEDED THAT NEITHER PROOF NOR ARGUMENT FOR LEGALITY ARE CONVINCING. On the grounds of expediency or necessity the action is more defensible!' (History of the Church, Introduction to Vol. 6, p. XXXVIII)"
MOB RULE
Vilate Kimball ltr 7 Jun 1844 in Helen Whitney, WE 11 (1882), p.106
June 11th. Nauvoo was a scene of excitement last night. Some hundreds of the brethren turned out and burned the printing press of the opposite party. This was done by order of the City Council. They had only published one paper (Nauvoo Expositor) which is considered a public nuisance. They have sworn vengeance, and no doubt they will have it."

POOR OL General JOE
Sunday, May 26, 1844 "God is in the still small voice. In all these affidavits, indictments, it is all of the devilall corruption. Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet. You know my daily walk and conversation. I am in the bosom of a virtuous and good people. How I do love to hear the wolves howl! When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go. For the last three years I have a record of all my acts and proceedings, for I have kept several good, faithful, and efficient clerks in constant employ: they have accompanied me everywhere, and carefully kept my history, and they have written down what I have done, where I have been, and what I have said; therefore my enemies cannot charge me with any day, time, or place, but what I have written testimony to prove my actions; and my enemies cannot prove anything against me. They have got wonderful things in the land of Ham. I think the grand jury have strained at a gnat and swallowed the camel. "
Days later he was dead! Prov 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Then of course there is the DANITES & the secret Council of Fifty

Well at least we can agree that he was not a MARTYR!

Blaine:  Well, if all else fails in attempting to gainsay the doctrine itself, one can always resort to attacking the character of the man.  JS is not here to defend himself, right?
JS was issued over 40 arrest warrents in his lifetime, and beat them all--except the last one when they murdered him and his brother Hyrum.  The armed guards who were supposedly defending him stepped aside when the mob came up the stairs after him.  The guards fired some shots to make it appear they were doing their duty, but strangely, none of the shots hit any mob members, despite the fact that they were fired at point blank range.

husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly." (Titus 1:5-6 KJV)

Joe is disqualified on two counts here. More than 1 wife & more than 1 riot! 1826 Warrant on Joseph Smith the "Glasslooker" for " disorderly person and an imposture"

Blaine:  See my comments to DaveM

1843 Warrants issued for the attempted assasination of the Governor of Missouri. Orin Porter Rockwell for assault with intent to kill, and Smith for being an accessory "before the fact."

Blaine:  The charge against Rockwell (a cousin of JS, by the way) of attempting to kill  governor Boggs, who had issued an extermination order against all Mormons,   was never proven.  As Rockwell said, "if I had done it, I would have succeeded."  He was a dead shot, and seldom known to miss his man.  He wore a long beard and his hair long, and had been promised by JS that as long as he never cut his hair, he would never be killed by his enemies.  He outlived the prophet, and was a mainstay for law and order in Utah.  He was shot at innumerable times, mostly by outlaws--like as in thieves, robbers, murderers, etc.   While JS was alive, Rockwell served as his bodyguard.  If fair had been fair, they would never have gotten to JS to kill him.  They had to trump up charges to have Joseph arrested and away from Rockwell, whom they feared.  But they also knew JS was a law abiding man and would submit to arrest.  It was a conspiriacy from start to finish.

Both were indicted and a warrant from Governor Carlin of Missouri issued for Smith's arrest as a fugitive from the law in Missouri.

Blaine:  The Missourians were not exactly a respectable bunch themselves.  The governor's illegal extermination order was in opposition to constitutional law, as well as Missouri law.  He did it to pacify the mobs in much the same spirit as Pontius Pilate agreed to crucify Jesus to pacify the Pharisee-led mob.

In 1844 a warrant was issued for Joe the mayor of Nauvoo, he was later arrested on a charge of Treason

Blaine:  A trumped up charge to get him in jail, where he could be the more easily murdered.

and taken to Carthage Jail. When the jail was stormed Joe shot & killed 1 wounded a second, with a smuggled gun.

Blaine:  Wow!  What a rascal!  He tried to defend himself!!     He threw a real curve on that mob, having his own gun!  How unfair of him!  It wasn't as if he was naive and didn't know what was happening with the mob.  Besides smuggling the two guns he used against the mob, his friends kept him informed as to what the mobs were doing, as well as what else was happening.  He very well knew what he was up against.  He should have had an automatic rifle, considering the circumstances.  LOL

Consider also Joe's violent character.
