You say religious nuts brought charges against Jo
The money digging charges were before he said ANYTHING about plates or NEPHI who later became Moroni. So it could not be religious PERSECUTION as you pretend. Wont work on this one.
When joe fled he realized I can dig for religious "treasure" with out fear of charges being filed against me for taking peoples money under pretense of finding buried treasure. So it was an easy switch from stories of PIRATES and evil SPIRITS to stories of gods & angels burying "treasure" and if anAngel was good just think how powerful a story about god would be. No more OLD MAN with a Beard stories. People were just as excited by "Religion" in that day and area as they were of "Buried treasure"
Comparing Jesus with an UNreligious Treasure SEEKER (at that time, see JSH 1 "amidst all my anxieties I had never as yet made the attempt to pray vocally") with religious persecution will not work. Jesus never sought PIRATE TREASURE!

What evidence do you show for your LDS slanted view of history other than your say so?
By the way how far did they carry Porter piggyback? A hundred miles? Who did this? John Bunyon?
To try to depict LDS as Blameless angels who were persecuted for no reason is rediculous. But that is exactly what most LDS believe.
Poor Joe everywhere he went despising other peoples Marriage Covenants and spoiling other mens WIVES, he was incredibly met with problems. AMAZING!
Of course there was special instructions for Emma not to engage with other men that is different. D&C 132:51 "A commandment I give unto mine handmaid, Emma Smith, your wife, whom I have given unto you, that she stay herself and partake not of that which I commanded you"
How convienient! Other mens WIVES for Joe, but he did not want other men to do the same to him.
Joe was a Copulating PIG.
Joe is Unwothy to tie the shoelace of John the baptist let alone God Almighty!
POLYGAMY WAS a CRIME UNTIL 1876
DOCTRINE and COVENANTS 101 Inasmuch as this Church of Christ has been reproached with the crime of fornication and polygamy, we declare that we believe that one man should have one wife, and one woman but one husband
JOE was a PIG way back in the 1830's

William Law's wife stated in 1844 "Joseph had asked her to give him half her love; she was at liberty to keep the other half for her husband"
Sidney Rigdon said "The leaders of the church were monsters in human form; that Joseph was cut off for his transgression, that Joseph Smith departed from the living God, and like David and Solomon he contracted a whoring spirit and that the Lord smote him off from the earth"
Mosiah 11:2 For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness.

Blaine Borrowman wrote: Hmmm, this is all very good Mormon doctrine, I think Kevin. Thanks for promoting Mormonism at its best. If not for sex (married sex), your mother would not have had seed, nor your father. You would not even be an afterthought. Are you a married man? If not then you need to get married. The old symbol for woman was a V, and the symbol for the male was an inverted V. Put the two together, and you have the star of David, which symbolizes spiritual and physical union of the sexes, the most important concept in ancient theology. It is also a symbol representing the Messiah. Jesus was a married man!! Long live married sex!! "The man is not without the woman in the Lord." Married sex is ordained of God. Unmarried sex leads to death and destruction, and is a tool of the
devil. You make Mormon theology on the subject of sex seem like there is no discrimination between married sex and unmarried sex. Is this a deliberate deception on your part, or do you just not understand the difference?-----
Blaine: His wife, Emma, apparently did not understand the situation, as evidenced by later events. But as to running away, Jesus did the same a number of times. He did not always stick around to let the boys do whatever Satan inspired them to do. Jesus also often avoided going into Jerusalem and Nazareth, for the simple reason he knew they were laying for him. There are actually many parallels between the life of Joseph Smith and that of Jesus the Christ. The main advantage Joseph Smith had over Jesus was that he lived in a country where supposedly church and state were separated. This was not the case with Jesus. The death penalty only required Roman sanctions--all else was legal for Jews, and as shown during his final trials, even the Jews' own laws were violated in dealing with him. Most of Joseph Smith's brushes with the law stemmed from attempts by religious nuts to bring him up on religiously oriented charges, and when that failed, other charges were trumped up. But the main problem was usually based on opposition to his religious views. When this was brought out during his trials, he was found innocent. In at least one case, however, he was not allowed his constitutional right of a speedy trial--he remained in Liberty Jail, for example, for some time, and trial was deliberately delayed. Apparently they knew to bring him to trial would mean they woud eventually have to let him go.The same thing happened to Porter Rockwell. He was in jail for 9 months, still no trial. He finally was given $100.00, by his wife, I think, which he used to hire a lawyer, and his trial was then scheduled for two weeks later. He was found innocent, and they then had to release him. But even then, his lawyer told him not to leave during the daytime. He had to sneak out of town, under cover of darkness, and had to travel barefooted. When he arrived in Nauvoo, his feet were a bloody mess--on the trip, he had paid people several times to carry him piggyback
