jt: I must have missed the "proud and false belief" - Terry's senses have had some good instruction in the prison system and this along with the every day tutoring of the Holy Spirit puts him in good stead so what belief of his are you calling "proud and false?" Caroline.   judyt

The belief that it is easy to tell God's voice from Satan. People who believe that thinks every thing that pops into their minds/hearts from an external source must be God.

So in the garden it would have been quite difficult for A&E to know that the serpent had said something different from God?

The belief that obedience means "just do it" Obedience is the character of our relationship with God.

Isn't "being a doer of the Word and not a hearer only deceiving our own selves" the same as "just doing it?"

Let me just list some of the things wrong with the "just do it" attitude. Ya'll have fun taking it apart. But hope springs eternal that some will register.

1) it is eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and not from the Tree of Life.

What is the tree of life IYO and where does one find it since mankind has been driven from the garden?

2) it means shutting down whatever it is in you that is saying, "Noooooo!" whether that voice is saying, stop this is not the right way to do it or wait this is not the right time or this is not what God wants!

What if it's the old flesh nature that we are supposed to have reckoned dead trying to come alive again that is shouting Nooooooooo?  The demons are always working on trying to raise that up again.

3) it means ignoring all signals that are telling you to deal with certain things like unforgiveness or warfare or past pain.

Why would one assume that Terry or any of those who are not into the "Christ event" would be ignoring these things which is in effect staying in the prison house of unforgiveness with that strongman in charge as though the Holy Spirit were mute.

4) it is joyless living. It is not the easy yoke and light burden of Jesus. It's pulling a cart with Satan cracking a whip but thinking you're working for the Lord.

You are speaking of JD's legacy here - but what reason do you have to think that this is also true for Terry or anyone else. There are deceived folk all over the place. Like the crowd who believe in Universalism and those in Isaiah who descend into Sheol rejoicing but then I'm sure some can come up with Gk words and tenses that make this bunch righteous also.  Love rejoices with the truth and we are warned constantly not to be deceived.

5) it is self effort and self glory. It is allows us to be pitiless on those fools who aren't doing it well which is pride. It makes me think that because I can do it, so can everyone else and it ignores all other issues.

What do you call "striving to enter His rest" Caroline - and how does one accomplish this?  Those who perished in the wilderness didn't make it did they?  How can we be sure that our outcome is different?  Don't forget that this warning is in the New Testament and was written  - after the "Christ event".....
