No problem and no need to get legalistic about it JD
Before the cross the Shepherd was present with the sheep and they were fewer in number,

Your are such a puppet, Judy.

Just can't resist that old accuser can you JD, you just go with it every time.  Why not just one time cast down the thought and determine in your heart that you will not be an "accuser of the brethren" but an uplifter of same?

But, moving on,  you are telling me that the only people Christ expected to fulfill His teachings and obey Him were those with whom he maintained personal contact?
No I'm not saying that at all; He came to introduce the Kingdom of Heaven - and was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel who were God's Covenant ppl.  His sheep were/are those who hear His voice and who respond accordingly.

Few in number?   What is a good working number, Judy?  Three, 12, or thousands?   Give me a number, while you are desparately
making up an answer to my query
This question does not deserve serious thought much less a response JD

OOOOhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  -  me thinks I got ya on this one.  And it is a game the two of us are playing.   It took me a while, nearly a year, to figure that out, but here we are.   When Jesus told the woman, "go thy way and sin no more,"  His second responce was to watch her walk away, back into her own world  !!!    She was not in His presence nor were the (probable) thousands who  heard His message and received His demands.
So what does this prove other than ppl don't have to sin, that it is something they choose to do?  If you know what is right and don't do it, to you it is sin.

And what of Israel  -- all those years being told to be obedient but not really having a chance  --   or what of those in Ninevah?    No Spirit there -----------    but they were sent a prophet for the sake of correction.   Shall I go on?   JD

Who says they didn't have a chance?  God's righteous judgment has never changed, it is all through scripture
that "a man will be rewarded according to what he does"  Either blessing or curse.  God set before them two ways; same two ways that are before us today.  Nineveh repented then later went back to their old ways and was destroyed.  God honored their choice.
