Before the cross the Shepherd was present with the sheep and they were fewer in number,
After the cross sheep are called by the Father to receive the Son and His Law placed within their hearts
So the principles below apply - and are as eternal as the One who gave them; hence no problem

Perhaps, but I rather think "the Law" which is placed in the heart of believer's is Christ himself (in the Spirit); it is therefore not about "principles" any longer, but relationship. In other words, "the Law of Christ" is "Christ in you the hope of Glory."

Sooooo, the words of Christ, above, were given to those who were indwelt by the Spirit?
These are words offered "pre-Cross,"  "pre-Pentecost"  as are a number of passges from the
ministry of Christ Incarnate that call for obedience and perfection   -----------

John 10:2-5
(2) But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
(3) To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth
his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
(4) And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the
sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
(5) And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they
know not the voice of strangers.

And also consider:

John 10:27
(27) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Being led of the Spirit is not at all like you described.  It is not blind
obedience to some inner voice that leads to joyless living.  Just the
opposite.  It leads to a life of great joy and liberty that this world
simply cannot comprehend.  This life is available to everyone who repents
and believes the gospel of Jesus Christ.
