I agree, Debbie, and I appreciate your analogy.  It certainly is valid.  The 
other side of this coin, however, is that if your children were disobedient, 
the law demands that they lose their relationship with you.  The law says to 
take them to the elders to be stoned.  Doesn't this mean that while 
relationship is not established upon obedience (something I think we all 
agree upon), obedience is an expected character trait that those who are in 
relationship with God and one another are expected to have?
