I decided to give them a couple of weeks to get the bugs out before I
watch and try to make a decision. I saw some clips on Hulu just to get
a feel for the show. When Conan talks about his early days, he says
that he knew he couldn't do detached irony like Dave and he had to
find his own direction (especially in the early days when Jay was
imitating Dave's show). In that same way, Fallon can't make his show a
version of Conan's show as it's going to follow that show. So it's
going to take him some time to find that and he will appear like he's
in over his head until he does.

Dave is the only host who can get away with being dissed by his staff.
A host has to be the center of a talk show and a repeating bit where
he gets marginalized won't work. It's a clever idea, though.

Jimmy didn't really interact with them. The other hosts would at least
ask some questions and get to know them a bit. Maybe ask why they
volunteered to do the bit or how they felt knowing their parents would
see them licking stuff.

It was the best way possible to start the show.
