I wanted to compare Leno to a recent Letterman, but I don't have any recent Daves readily handy. Speaking strictly from memory, though, it seems like Dave's opening (and Conan's and Craig's, for that matter) is a bit more restrained. I started to write something to this effect in my initial e-mail before deleting it, but it almost seemed to me to be a way of subtly reinforcing the notion that everyone loves Jay--look, here are people who love Jay, and here are more people who love Jay, and look at these people who love Jay, and more people over here love Jay, and the band loves Jay and here's a wide shot of the people who love Jay. I think that's what really got me to compare the two--it almost came across as a bit of insecurity about Jay's status as America's Favorite Late Night Host (TM). To me, at least--I know I'm reading too much into this, but that's what really hit me. -- -- Ben Scripps [email protected] --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
