There is an opportunity here for the Swiss, in spite of themselves, to actually help finally clear up this long ugly mess. The current US judge with jurisdiction has signaled that he is willing to be reasonable, but is insisting that Polanski submit himself to the court process. Polanski has never trusted that he would be treated fairly in a US court, and so has not been able to come back and get it cleared up. Maybe the extradition hearings, in Switzerland, will provide a neutral ground to work things out - either to satisfy the US court and deal with the underlying charge, or, more likely, to give Polanski enough reassurance that he will be treated fairly that he can go back to the US and get it over with. It is very unlikely Polanski will spend time in a US prison over this; he already plead guilty to the one count of sex with a minor, the judge can waive any charges on fleeing the country, and give him a suspended sentence in the interest of justice, and let everyone move on. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV ....
