I can't help but believe this situation is another indication of the double standard between the famous and the rest of us. A priest rapes a kid, even after 30 years, the priest is tagged and labeled and sued and chastised. A school teacher rapes a kid, same deal (though, oddly, a different double standard applies here inasmuch as there seems to be less of a social stigma if the teacher is a woman and the student is a boy). Here's a case where a famous guy rapes a girl, avoids arrest for decades, and now wants a get-out-of-jail-free card. Famous people can drive drunk on repeated instances (Paris Hilton, Keifer Sutherland, Flav A Flav) and be forgiven by society. They can commit fraud (Martha Stewart) and be forgiven by society. And recently we've learned of two NFL players who've killed (one killed dogs, the other a human being) and be forgiven by society. Not one of us nobodys could avoid full prosecution for these crimes. At the very least, we'd lose our jobs, the respect of our friends, the ability to maintain a high paying career, and probably a great deal more. If he is guilty, and it would appear he has admitted guilt, then the very least he can do is serve the same sentence for the crime that you or I would, combined with the maximum sentence for evading custody. Anything less, and our justice system has one more reason to be ashamed of itself. -- Kevin M. (RPCV) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
