My sister and brother-in-law went to Colbert's taping last night (Thursday).

Two shows (Thursday and Friday) were taped back to back. However - they did
NOT see one of Thursday's guests (Kate Winslet) or one of Friday's guests
(Carol Burnett). In fact, they were told that Burnett's segment was taped
three weeks ago.
They did, however, see Mark Hamill (Friday's guest - they said his segment
was great) and the Thursday segment with Laura Benanti as Melania.
They also said that the two monologues were taped back to back - the Friday
monologue was taped immediately after the Thursday one.
(I watched part of Thursday's show before I fell asleep - when Colbert
pointed out Jon Batiste's father was playing bass with the band, then asked
him "Can you play Friday night too?", I got a chuckle.)

I haven't been to many TV tapings in my life, but in the nineties I went to
one Letterman, one Leno, and two Conans. When I told my brother-in-law that
the shows I witnessed were complete shows that just taped all the way
through from start to finish, he was shocked.
