I’m having trouble figuring out how “live on tape” is deceptive, rather than a
fairly obvious tongue-in-cheek joke.

The deception begins with the daily "Live on tape" announcement. Nothing will
change.

I have pretty much stopped watching on Fridays. I am not exactly angry, but I
have been calling on them to be more transparent about this (I have emailed
them a couple of times, no reply).

I don’t think it’s laziness; it takes a lot of time and energy to do those
shows. Colbert wants time with the Fam in NJ, and he wants his staff to do that
too.

The show is so ultra topical that even a rerun from a month ago would feel
dated. So I don’t mind what they are doing, just wish they were more honest
about it

Have to agree. When Dave was dark on Fridays, the alleged excuse was that they
used the time to tape material outside of the studio. (That it was more that
Dave just couldn't be bothered to work five days is beside the point ... )
Colbert doing this just strikes me a lazy. Of course, Myers does it, too, but
at least Late Night admits the whole show is a rerun. I'll be interested to see
if they do five new shows a week during sweeps or keep this up.

This is the second week in a row that The Late Show has repeated an interview
on a Friday show. Last week it was a second go for Fire and Fury author
Michael Wolff, who had appeared earlier that week. Tonight it's comedian and
Crashing star Pete Holmes, a repeat from January 10.

The annoyance for me comes from the show making no indication that the
interview had aired before. And yes, the show has reaired interview footage
before, but it has typically called it out and in some cases included material
that wasn't aired the first time around. These last two instances had no new
material, AFAIK.
