Solution implemented: Last four lines of cupsd.conf prefixed with '# '. Updates installed. Test print made: OK But ... printer icon in system tray marked with exclamation mark and comment 'rendering completed' and no response to left mouse click. System restarted. System tray icon responds normally. I assume the problem is eliminated and if not, I will add a new comment.
