Additional confirmed reproduction — Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 XT / Zorin OS 18
I experienced the same regression after upgrading linux-firmware-amd- graphics from 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.3 to 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.4. Hardware and software: GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT PCI ID: 1002:7550 Subsystem ID: 1da2:e490 OS: Zorin OS 18 (Ubuntu 24.04 Noble base) Installed kernels: 7.0.0-42-generic, 7.0.0-38-generic, 6.8.0-147-generic Symptoms: After the firmware package upgrade, the machine displayed the motherboard splash screen and then went to a black screen. The system could still be accessed using a live USB. Confirmed workaround: Downgraded linux-firmware-amd-graphics to 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu3.3. Placed the package on hold using apt-mark hold linux-firmware-amd- graphics. Regenerated initramfs images for all three installed kernels using update-initramfs -u -k all. Verified that /lib/firmware/amdgpu/dcn_4_0_1_dmcub.bin.zst is a regular 225,553-byte file, not a symbolic link. Rebooted successfully. Normal graphical boot was restored. This confirms that the reported firmware packaging regression also affects Sapphire RX 9070 XT hardware running Zorin OS 18 on the Ubuntu Noble base. Please ensure the corrected firmware package is made available through Noble updates before users are encouraged to upgrade from 0ubuntu3.3. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2173041 Title: black screen after upgrading linux-firmware-amd-graphics to 0ubuntu3.4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware-amd-graphics/+bug/2173041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
