Ubunntu 8.04 Live CD needs 384 MB ram, Normal set up needs 256 MB of RAM, My system (256 MBRAM) is running perfectly fine with ubuntu 8.04 upgraded from ubuntu 7.10. normally top displays 45 MB of free memory at any instant, Desktop Environment is gnome.
