I (possibly naively) assumed that the incompatible product was the existing ADSL service. All of the FTTC lines we've migrated using the same method have come across fine without any issues.
Have you thought about investing in one or two 4G hotspots for the use of customers in the interim while their line transfers?
I have a feeling this may end up being the path of least resistance. Just cease the ADSL and immediately re-provide on FTTC.
