I attempted to do that test, but... I've only got 1 XP valid, legal, key at
home and I didn't want to activate the same key twice in a row.  Especially
for 2 installs I was going to be deleteing.  So I couldn't run Windows
Update and see what updates, if any there were different between the two
test casts.

The tool I used is currently Windows only called Beyond Compare,
http://www.scootersoftware.com/  I've been using it for years, and it's one
of the very few pieces of non-FOSS or free closed source software I use on
my Windows machine.  It looks like for version 3 they are making a Linux
version as well.  Dangit, looks like if you want a Linux and Windows license
you'll need to purchase two licenses....

Beyond Compre is a really nice gui tool, but diff works fine on Linux and
even the win32 port of diff works fine on Windows if you don't mind the
command line.  Only problem is, every time I use diff I need to hit the help
and google to get it to do what I want.
