I love your list, but more importantly I love the way you got to your list!
I suspect that each of us would be able to generate a list of many of the
"what" to teach. The part of your list that I love, however, is that it goes
much deeper. You begin to suggest the "How" to teach: "The lilt of language, a
curious heart, reading beyond the words." Those are things that don't
necessarily appear in standards, benchmarks, or even GLCs, yet look at how
esential they really are. What is it that makes teachers delivering the same
curriculum very different? And what makes their students perform very
differently? Could it be that which is essential? :-)
