Please, please don't preface comments with names unless they are used as greetings. If you have the name of the person who posted after their post and yours when you respond, then we know who is saying what. The way it is below is very confusing and it seems to be happening a lot. Thank you! Elisa

And I don't really see a way out of that, due to RtI rules for scientifically based research. ( An off-topic aside - Is anyone else doing RtI yet? It doesn't really go into effect until next year, but we are practicing. ) Cathy K-5 DE Cindy: My District just started getting into RTI last year and was mostly based on Dibels scores at the primary grades. It sounds like the school I was at has a lot of successful interventions this year, and they are looking beyond just fluency. I've moved onto Middle school and RTI isn't established yet. I'm going to a workshop later this month. Each school has someone going, plus we'll have time to discuss what we learn and how to implement and share the information. Too many new folks are utilizing programs as their first shot of instruction when they are in their first year of teaching and not having to 'savor the struggle" of teaching reading. It is so frustrating. BEV: I would agree. Those such as Susan O'Hanian would wonder if it's not politically deliberate. Whatever: it's heartbreaking and terrifying for our education in a democracy. PETER:Good is the enemy of great. Great is the enemy of possible. Possible is what we would always be shooting for.
