Thank you, Keith. As our "tech" person, you have a lot experience in listserv protocol and we all appreciate your input. We (meaning our four moderators) set up discussion guidelines in the beginning because, as you are all well aware, it is very easy to misconstrue someone's tone and intent in an email and we wanted to ensure that everyone feels that this is a safe environment to disagree. We had not set formal protocols for this list in terms of how to reply but perhaps it is time to do that. I know that no one was intending to hurt anyone else's feelings as opinions were expressed. To prevent further misunderstandings, let's try to stick to the email protocols Keith describes below but be understanding when someone forgets from time to time.

This is especially crucial to those that are getting digest versions as it allows them to more easily scan messages. Of course "trimming" and condensing of previous replies is a great idea. Please be aware that some people have been observing other rules for replying to messages and that in the "heat" of the conversation will default to their usual way of replying. I have one very close friend that has her own unique way of replying to messages. I understand that this is "how she rolls" and live with it (and also buy her lunch from time to time!). As well, digest members PLEASE try to modify your subject before sending. As well, if you are replying to a unqualified "digest" post, please change subject to something meaningful. Something like "Understand Digest, Vol 2, Issue 8" doesn't help people, so please be careful on this. I have been lurking on this list and have been amazed both at the content and congeniality of the posts. So let the dust settle on the protocol issue, do the best you can, and move on to more great interchanges of ideas. keith mack [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________ Understand mailing list [email protected] http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/listinfo/understand_literacyworkshop.org _______________________________________________ Understand mailing list [email protected] http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/listinfo/understand_literacyworkshop.org
