Judy,
I did not say posting the way you did was banned or even wrong. That would not
be my style. I was just suggesting that by putting the name of the poster with
a colon was confusing to me, especially if the message is followed by the
original poster's name and identifying information. I apologize if you took
this as an attack on you. It wasn't intended that way. If you notice, I said
this has been happening a lot lately. I am not the listserv moderator but a
participant and just like any other participant I feel I have a right to
express my opinion or discomfort, not only with comments made but with the form
of the comments. If others don't find this distracting then so be it. I'll
have to learn to live with it. I think deleting everything but what you are
responding to is a great consideration of others. I never spoke to that issue,
at all.

I hope this is clear now. I certainly don't want to take up more time
discussing this on this list, which was why I had hesitated to write anything
before today. It is a request but not a point for a lot of discussion.
Thanks,
Elisa

Okay, just this once I won't pull out the comment to which I'm referring. I
will just say that, of all the listservs I've been on, I thought that
pulling relevant comments and posting by name (who said what), then removing
all the unnecessary bits, was thoughtful and considerate for the reader.
This is the first listserv which has a norm/protocol/etiquette that states
we cannot write in this way. I promise I read through every post and saw
Jen's suggestions for this group's posts--and I missed this one. I have
been guilty of posting this way--as I do on many listservs. I had no idea
it was banned! Now I'm going to post this the way I would have before the
new rule was made. I hope you will see that I took out the irrelevant parts
and only included the bits I needed for my post. I honestly thought I was
being considerate NOT making you read through every bit of the other post to
find the part to which I refer. I sure hope someone can explain why we're
not allowed to do this anymore.
Judy

THE WAY I PREFER:

Elisa: Please, please don't preface comments with names unless they are used
as greetings. If you have the name of the person who posted after their
post and yours when you respond, then we know who is saying what.
