Sounds like we have gone through the same thought process.
Thanks

Subject: RE: [UnifliteWorld] Blocked Fuel Tank Breather

Monty I have found the same thing when all my valves are open. Not sure why
that is. Pretty weird. I am assuming it is a pressurization issue in the
system. Personally, I do not mess with the 3 T handles that you are talking
about. I consider those to be for emergency use only as they only cut off the
supply side and not the return side. If I had a fire in the engine room, etc
and wanted to kill the fuel sources I would use them then. I do all my
modifications from the valves on the back wall of my engine room. I have port
tank to port engine, starboard tank to starboard engine and Center as reserve
for the engines and primary supply for the genset and hydronic heat. I do have
a filler for my center tank. It is not a gravity feed as yours sounds to be.
If for some reason I find my boat listing a bit to one side I will cut off the
fuel return to the tank on the low side and feed all fuel return to the high
side until it evens back out. Be careful though. You have to remember you did
this or you run the risk of puking diesel out the vent when you overfill it. I
have messed with just about every valve combination you can on that boat. :)
Since I did the electric fuel pump install, I can even do transfers from one
tank to another while I am sitting in my slip. Very nice to have.

Hi Kerry,
just a quick question regarding using your middle tank. I have a 1979 42 DCMY
with I would guess has the same set up as you for fuel tanks. My question is
how do you use your tanks. I find that if I try to use all three that I seem to
draw from port tank only, I have been reluctant to experiment with different
valves open and closed but thought maybe you have?..when all valves are open,
three next to the stairs, and the cross over in the engine room is opened I
draw from the port tank only....what or how do you use your middle tank.
Thanks Kerry.
Monty.

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Blocked Fuel Tank Breather

Guys,

I have 3 tanks on my 42 DCMY. I think that my center tank has a blocked
breather line. Every single time I fill that tank, it boils over, no matter
how slow I pump. I always have towels at the ready for it. Is there any easy
way to clear out that breather line or do I have to figure out a way to detach
is from the tank and the hull and blow it out with an air hose? The tank is
wedged underneath pretty good so it is going to be a major chore to pull that
breather line. I'm just looking for options.

Thanks,

Kerry
