I had a similar experience with a Xantrex Freedom SW 2000 unit. Not a great
experience. It cost $1188.00 and?didn't work. The unit?ran constantly and
the?electric bill at my slip quadrupled.??It was returned to the company
(shipping $70.00)?where they reprogrammed it to work like the previous
non-computerized and cheaper model. I have not yet re-installed the unit but
have serious concerns about the reliability of anything Xantrex markets. They
also install these little boxes of garbage on RVs which is less vital to
working properly than a boat. RV owners call the Good? Sam club and viola
they're on the hook and off to the shop. Being at sea with a broken component
is?different situation.?

I've used xantrax on my previous boat for 8 years with no problems, 3kw
model. ?Bought a 3kw ?Royal Power inverter on my present boat. I DO NOT
RECOMMEND ?THEM. ?unit failed, sent back, cost $100 plus shipping. ?Installed
it, ?worked less than a day. ?Contacted them again, told to return. ?Sent back
and never heard from again. ?Several emails and not response .will not return
phone messages.

Xantrex is good stuff.? They're a Canadian company that bought up Trace and
Heart Interface.? Their brand name used to be Statpower, but they changed it
when they bought the Seattle companies.? They also build very good monitoring
systems.

OK, so y'all convinced me to go with a 3Kw Inverter. Probably going with a MSW
design. The refrig draws 16a (1920w) peak and 12a (1440w) normal. West Marine
has several made by Magnum and KISAE. Also came across some by Newmar and
Xantrex. Other than Newmar, I've never heard of any of these companies. Any
suggestions out there? It'll probably be a built-in model and also considering
an Inverter/Charger combo. Found a few less than $1000, not including
installation.
