Bob, I have spent a lot of time around my Onan.  I always thought if I were to
remove/replace the genset I would make the stairs leading down to the galley so
they open up.  My Onan is in the same place as yours; however, my double cabin
is a 1984 and I believe the galley is arrange in the reserve layout and I don't
know where your stairs are relative to your genset.  I never had to do this,
but it is a thought.

Subject: [UnifliteWorld] Need advise on generator replacement

I have a 1973 42' double cabin with twin cummins diesels new in 1990. My
generator however was the original 1973 Onan MDJE. I have nursed my generator
for years but it just had a major and I am sure final problem somewhere in the
generating unit. I now have to replace it. It was a 7KW but I have never used
more than 4000 watts at any time and it is mounted forward of the port main
engine.  Any experience with removal and replacement out there? Advice on new
Model? Make Size? Thanks. I always valure this groups ideas.--
