I bought a fanless M10000-based mini-ITX box
(<http://www.logicsupply.com/product_info.php/cPath/49/products_id/372>)
for my first slim server. It's inaudible when the drive is spun down,
and it's fast enough to be usable as a general email and browsing
machine in addition to streaming music, but unfortunately it's not as
efficient yet as I'd hoped as I can't get it to sleep under Linux.
Apparently power management on C3 CPUs is broken in 2.6 series kernels
because none of the kernel developers have one to test on. I'm still
happy with it, but for now at least Linux on C3 CPUs is not a very
energy efficient solution as far as I can tell. I'd be interested to
hear if anyone has had better luck with Linux on any of the EPIA
boards.
