Disk Performance used to be my biggest concern. I had an internal SATA Drive 200GB and listening from 1 slimbox was ok.
When I played also from 2 PC's using the java emulation problems started to appear with some lags and other. I moved that and another 5000 songs to a SATA Raid Now I have 6 player and typically 3-4 running at the same time. I tested with all and there is absolutely no issue anymore.
