No, I have not performed any power measurments myself. Power
consumption will depend on the drive specifications. A flash drive will
minimize power needs (I believe the nslu2 site has some stats), but
limit storage. I am using a Western Digital 160GB External USB drive
with manufacturers specifications of:

AC Input Voltage        100-240 VAC
AC Input Frequency      50-60 Hz
AC Input Current        0.6A max (RMS)

I have not made any adjustments to the standby timer (spin down), but
this issue has been addressed in the nslu2 FAQ:
