Well, sure enough after I started fresh and installed Feisty Desktop AMD64, I was able to use Synaptic to successfully install SS 6.5.1 from the Slim Debian site, and then update to SS 6.5.2! I still don't know why trying to install with Feisty Server didn't work, and while I'm sort of interested in knowing that, I have more immediate fish to fry, and so here I am asking for advice.
Little background: my music library (all FLAC) is located on an Infrant NAS volume formatted as SMB. Feisty sees it out there in File Browser and I can access its directories and files, but my Unix/Linux is so rusty I don't recall how to automatically create a mount point that Slimserver can use. I dimly recall that /etc/fstab can be edited to establish mount points, but I also dimly recall an admonition not to include NFS mounts in fstab. Anyone knowledgeable in Ubuntu/Debian who can refresh me on this? The other thing I noticed is that my Squeezebox is unable to find my new Slimserver (this is the only one on the network). When I boot it from cold, it attaches to the network and acquires an address, then begins looking for a Slimserver, then goes dark. Any advice?
