If the led is on at the LAN port or the motherboard it does look that
the thing should work.

The turning off bit should happen automatically as as far as I know the
ATX power supply is designed for wake on lAN. This means there is power
on at the LAN connection even when the machine is turned off. This
means that when you send the magic packet (which is what the Slimserver
does) it will work and the ATX supply will then turn on the main power
supplies to the mobo.

You have to turn the settings on in the bios and then make sure that
the software in linux is cooperating. the instructions in linux are
easily done with ethtool as the other guy is trying to help you with.

The magic packet from the SB appears when you press the power button on
the remote. The packet is sent down the lan to the last computer acting
as server.

Also you shouldn't turn off the computer at the mains as this will stop
the function.
