Here is how to enable WOL magic packets using ethtool for an interface
called "eth0". This is what you need to do for a SB3 to be able to wake
the SC7 system from S5 (poweroff) or S3 (suspend). Your Linux distro may
have another place to set "wol g" as part of the init scripts (e.g.
RH/Fedora/CentOS support addition of *ETHTOOL_OPTS="wol g"* to
*/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0* to accomplish the same
thing as the command below)
Code:
--------------------
*ethtool -s eth0 wol g*
--------------------
Here is example output from ethtool for an e1000 interface on my SC7
system called "eth0" after enabling WOL magic packets (previous
command).
Code:
--------------------
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# ETHTOOL ETH0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Speed: 1000Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 0
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
Supports Wake-on: umbg
Wake-on: g
Current message level: 0x00000007 (7)
Link detected: yes
--------------------
Here is the output for a non-existent interface called "foo"
Code:
--------------------
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# ETHTOOL FOO
Settings for foo:
Cannot get device settings: No such device
Cannot get wake-on-lan settings: No such device
Cannot get message level: No such device
Cannot get link status: No such device
No data available
--------------------
Your output suggests that "eth0" does not exist, which could be the
case if the driver module for the NIC is not yet loaded. Can you ping
sites on the LAN or internet?
