You'll need to look at your SAMBA configuration. Also, make sure that the directory you are sharing has read/write permissions for users other than root. SAMBA should be set up to allow anonymous users to read/write.
On my OpenSuSE setup, I had to add a parameter called guest_ok and set it to yes. This was the "magic parameter" that got it working for me.
