At least I didn't notice anything that looked like compromised write performance when I was rsync-ing the audio and video files to this drive.
My main audio ripping (and everything else) machine dual-boots Windows 7 and Fedora 14. I partitioned and mkfs-ed the disk on that machine and then rsync-ed the data from ntfs drives to the new (then) ext2 drive. All that seemed to go smoothly. It was only after moving the new drive into my SBS box (ubuntu server 10.04) that I started seeing things slow down. I've decided to yank that disk and put it in an external enclosure and use it as the library for tinysc on my SBTouch. We'll see how well behaved it is there. My replacement disk for my main SBS server is now going to be a 3TB Hitachi 0S03230: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145493 With this purchase, I've broken my informal rule which had been: don't buy a bigger hard disk until the price drops below $100USD. Anyway, today, I'll be learning about GPTs and, no doubt, about 4k sectors. -- gharris999 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87340 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
