The software extensions are opened from disk.....they are read only
SquashFS file partitions.   The Ram disk contains symbolic links to
these partition.   

I've never seen filesystem errors doing the steps you outlined.   I'm
using a variety of class 10 cards, never issues with any of them.  How
are you resizing the partition of the card?  We have seen some problems
with some cards reporting max size differently.   Try only expanding 100
or 200 MB.
