So.. using the base server OS I have just tried following this
https://askubuntu.com/questions/521188/setting-up-wireless-wpa2-on-ubuntu-server-14-04 But I had to keep installing stuff and got confused. So gave up and tried the link I posted above https://www.techrepublic.com/article/how-to-use-the-nmcli-command-to-gather-network-device-information-on-linux/ The download took forever and then systemctl would not start so I rebooted and tried again but it would not work. Then found that wpa_supplicant was not installed so did a wget for that, rebooted and followed these instructions https://www.linuxbabe.com/command-line/ubuntu-server-16-04-wifi-wpa-supplicant That got me as far as this Code: -------------------- joggler@joggler:~$ wpa_passphrase PLUSNET-P7HKNN cebbabf676 | sudo tee /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf network={ ssid="PLUSNET-******" #psk="***********" psk=4014411e54b751894f91b7fde225a4351fca2e9d4bb9db8d0e1a25ed37b3dc44 } joggler@joggler:~$ sudo wpa_supplicant -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -i wlp3s0 Successfully initialized wpa_supplicant nl80211: 'nl80211' generic netlink not found Failed to initialize driver 'nl80211' -------------------- and Code: -------------------- joggler@joggler:~$ iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. wlan0 Ralink STA ESSID:"11n-AP" Nickname:"RT2870STA" Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:1 Mb/s RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:0 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 eth0 no wireless extensions. joggler@joggler:~$ -------------------- It looks like I need a driver, but I'm hungry now and I'm going for lunch. I'll make a fresh "base" image and restart. ronnie ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110040 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
