C-3PO fills a gap in the standard LMS transcoding process. LMS
conversion only exposes audio format, sampleing rate and number of
channels to conversion rules. This is inadequate when there is a need
to handle conversion of sample formats (e.g. s16le, s16be, f32le,f32be).
C-3PO fills that need a bit more. However conversions works best when
LMS and player capabilities have been matched (i.e. when LMS added dsf,
squeezelite also added dsf).

Daphile has something additional when handling wav and its own
transcoding application called "Native+" (shown in red) . It has also
added a new device type Daphile (shown in blue) which enables additional
conversion to be performed or perhaps the player is an enhanced
squeezelite. Like C-3PO it has added to the processing of WAV as WAV
under LMS it too generic for specialised formats but in a different way
to C-3PO.
