I too had some problems running a 200MHZ 604e and
thought it was the processor. Ended up being a 128MB
DIMM that worked perfectly in 9, but when I installed
X it gave random kernel panics when using X. I
installed it on my other machine (7500 w/NewerTech G4)
and it lasted a while longer on this set-up, but
eventually did the same thing. The machine that had
the 604e (7600) now has a Powerlogix G3 card running @
450MHZ and it works great now. In conclusion, X will
work on a 604e, but is almost too slow for "real" use.
It is useable though.
Mike
