I am running the desktop version OSX on a stock 200 MHz 603e in a 9500 but I am using it as a server. Generally the machine runs with all users logged out and the monitor powered off. I run Apache, PHP and mysql. It is very responsive in that role. I believe that the bandwidth to my ISP is my limiting factor, not the CPU. Why OSX rather than some other solution? I did not want to futz with Linux and getting the PHP/mysql capability under OS 8 or OS 9 was either expensive or difficult depending on the route taken. Besides, I am using OSX on my iBook and am becoming very comfortable with it. I can also prototype changes to the server setup on my iBook and directly transfer the results over when they are ready.
