Hi, I am new to both this list and the unsupported mac os X list (though
I am old with macs and other lowendmac lists). I was "sent away" from
the PCI PPC list with this problem/question: how to install panther on a
beige 233 G3 (revA rom, 4gb hd, 128mb ram, all the bare minimums. All I
need X for is my web server) I have downloaded and tried XPostFacto to
no avail. When it tries to install from the cd, upon startup, it
replaces the grey apple logo with an x (the kind of "x" in front of the
cigarette on no smoking signs, if you get what I'm saying ;) Anyhow, I
am stuck with OS9 on an external scsi 9.1gb drive. Any help?

If all you need it for is a Web server, install the latest rev of Darwin, or use OS X 10.2. Darwin would be a lower-resource system, and is the same underlying Unix as 10.3, 10.2 gets you the real Mac UI. On that system 10.2 will crawl...but it will install without the need for any help since 10.2 is supported on that system.

10.3 is not yet supported on this model via XPostFacto, because the internal video isn't supported yet. If you get a supported video card, it will work, (though I haven't been brave enough to try it yet myself..)
