o. I have had and support several other Beige G3s and find the beige G3 to be a pretty flaky Mac for any upgrades. The Beige Macs I have had a hand on are the most touchy Macs for booting even in OS 9. With hardware upgrades many of them are very bad with booting problems from hard drives and CDs.
You must have gotten a bad run or you have a resident G3-loving gremlin. My beige has been really stable, even with a G4 upgrade, Radeon video card and 3rd party CDRW. OTOH, I have a friend who had the most horrible time with one getting OS X to work. He and an Apple tech worked for weeks on it, the tech eventually replaced everything but the case and it still didn't work...even though *all* the parts worked in other systems just fine. Weird. It was that *particular* combination of parts, it seemed.
I haven't yet upgraded it to 10.3, preferring to let others squeal like guinea pigs this time around, but I keep hearing success reports with similar setups to mine.
