okay, we really want to have a company blog as part of our website

are options:
1) build the website around the blog (ie use something like
wordpress and have the blog dominate - a la tompeters.com
2) insert the blog into the web page (not really sure how to do this)
3) have blog on separate linked page and use blog software or
service (wordpress, blogspot)
4) build own blog as a separate page on the site using php or rails
or python - this seems like what 37signals is doing with their
signals vs noise blog (one of my favorites)
When using WordPress there's another version as well. You can use the
Pages feature of WP for the non-blog content and optionally set the
front page of the site to be either the blog, or one of the Pages.
This allows for example.com to show a Page and example.com/blog/ to
show the blog content. Essentially you'd be using WP as a CMS at that
point. There are a couple of settings at Settings -> Reading (Front
page displays) that controls how this works.
I think the core decision on wether this is a reasonable alternative
for you is if you are comfortable putting all of your content in WP.
