Hi Mark :

OK, after adding RAM, I applied some ivy to an old scene (from the V3 days, the fountain was generated by Enhancer!)

OK , I'll bite . Is this a V3 project that you imported into
V5.x ? I get error messages when I try that , and others have
also posted here that they are having trouble too .

If so , could you post your working method ?

Frankly, I forgot the details, I don't think every object in the original scene converted perfectly... I usually don't bother with such old stuff, but a friend wanted a hires picture of that particular scene, so I re-installed V3 on my current computer. Couldn't even render that project because of some missing RPL scripts (ripples in the water, by Frank Dodd if I'm not mistaken). It's a shock to see how far we've advanced since those days... I still remembered a few keyboard shortcuts ;)

From bare memory:
- B-spline meshes convert OK to nurbs
- trim curves from extruded objects (like letters) are reversed, you have to adjust them manually
- if you still have V3, export the objects individually and see what works.
- analyticals convert ok

I didn't bother with the V3 materials, re-made the materials in VSL.

Man , great advice and yet another excellent example of a why
a detailed HTML web page for the dynamic Realsoft manual is
required here . This is truly important stuff but will most
probably disappear quickly .

Too bad Mark , since this is actually a very nice presentation
of an easy method for adding cool warmth and depth to average
achitectural renderings .

Cheers and nice work !

Thanks, I know it'll be lost in the void again but I'm planning a massive site largely made with RS, I just hope I can get it in the air in a month or so. Really, I have tons of stuff to show that never saw the daylight!

cheers,
Mark
