I am not sure if this is exactly what you want, but in the Edit menu you have the "Instance" tool that makes a linked copy of an object. Changing the control curves or any other parameter of the original object will be duplicated on all instances. There are, however a few quirks concerning the orientation matrices, sometimes I have had unexpected results. I was probably doing something wrong at those times, though. ;-)
